Florida Sister Cities International Economic Development Summit
The Board was created to build mutually beneficial relationships between Miramar and its international Sister Cities and to make recommendations to the City Commission concerning these cities. The Miramar Sister Cities Board met monthly since March 2022, including two workshops: one about the Florida Sunshine Law, conducted by the City Attorney, and the other regarding Sister Cities International (SCI), conducted by a Florida State Representative. The Board worked on building a Sister City relationship with Belize City, Belize, which began with a Memorandum of Understanding signed on September 24, 2013. The two cities were establishing their wants and needs to become sister cities, with several meetings held via Zoom and at local events. Several documents were designed by the Board to aid in the selection process and to carry forth their recommendation to the City Commission. A staff delegation, along with Commissioner Colbourne, attended the Florida Sister Cities International Economic Development Summit in Panama City, Republic of Panama, from June 7–9, 2023, covering topics such as opportunities for trade in the global market, sustainable development and artificial intelligence, and trade and investment.
