Registration for the MIRAMAR BUSINESS ACADEMY (MBA)

The City of Miramar Economic Development and Housing Department and SCORE Broward present the nationally recognized, award-winning Miramar Business Academy (MBA) Entrepreneurship Training Program. This MBA program is designed for new as well as existing small businesses. The program includes the thought process and actions necessary to start and grow successful businesses. The goal of the MBA program is to help entrepreneurs and small business owners assess opportunities, build successful businesses, and create wealth.

THE MBA PROGRAM SUPPORTS DEVELOPMENT OF NEW AND EXISTING SMALL BUSINESSES AND CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS:

1. Technical assistance to train aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners on the fundamentals of starting or growing a business Miramar Business Academy (MBA)

2. Small-Business Grants $10,000 for startups and existing businesses

BACKGROUND

On September 11, 2023, the Economic Development & Housing Department, in partnership with SCORE Broward, launched the Miramar Business Academy (MBA). This is a comprehensive Entrepreneurship Training program designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners learn or refine their business model; identify the components of an effective business plan; and access the tools and resources for launching or scaling their businesses. Participants who completed ten (10) out of twelve (12) sessions would receive an MBA Certificate of Completion. The MBA Program consists of two parts.

The Miramar Business Academy (MBA) - A technical program designed to teach and train aspiring entrepreneurs on the fundamentals of starting and running a successful business. At the conclusion of the program, participants will prepare a Business Plan and Financial Projections.
Grant Funds - A grant fund up to $10,000 to help Miramar residents/businesses who have completed the MBA training program to purchase machinery/equipment; professional services (e.g., legal, accounting, marketing); and/or technology infrastructure/upgrades.

MBA GRANT

Miramar residents who completed the MBA program and submitted a business plan will be eligible to apply for a grant up to $10,000 to start or grow their businesses. Staff anticipates using a two-part evaluation process for grant applications. Part one will consist of scoring the quality of business plans to determine a short list of applicants who move to the final scoring. Part two will consist of a “pitch” competition where the quality of the applicant’s oral presentation of their business plan and request for funding will determine the finalists for grant funding. For the approved grant recipients, the city will disburse the funds to the vendor(s) supplying the good(s) and/or service(s) to the businesses.
